Ben Jacobs has claimed that Newcastle United target Lucas Paqueta is open to a move to the Premier League.

The Brazilian midfielder enjoyed another excellent campaign at Lyon last season, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further seven in all competitions. And, if reports are to be believed, that form has attracted the interest of Newcastle United this summer.

Speaking on The Football Terrace’s Done Deal Show, Jacobs claimed that the midfielder would be open to the Premier League move, saying“Paqueta’s looking for a fresh challenge. He’s not going to force his way out the door, but he’s definitely open to the move. And Sources have made that very clear, his agent has also made that very clear.”

Paqueta, of course, is the former Lyon teammate of current Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães, creating a connection already between the two midfielders. Both Brazilian, too, Newcastle would have themselves a partnership which is clearly on the same page.

TIF Thoughts on Paqueta…

Lucas Paqueta is a top class player, there’s no doubting that, and his 18 goal involvements last season proves that statement. However, the price that Arsenal, who are also interested, have been quoted for the Brazilian is €80 million, according to Goal Brazil.

Those at Newcastle have the money, that is not in doubt after their recent takeover. But, they must spend it wisely. The Magpies must evaluate if Paqueta is worth breaking the bank for, or if it is worthwhile considering spending the money on other departments.

Eddie Howe has already welcomed Nick Pope, Sven Botman, and Matt Target this summer. And, with other a month left until Deadline Day, could yet welcome more arrivals if Newcastle splash their newfound cash even more this summer.
