Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Victor Osimhen joining Newcastle United would be a dream signing for the club this summer.

Premier League outfit Newcastle United have reportedly shown interest in signing Victor Osimhen in this summer transfer window, they were interested in bringing the Napoli forward to St James’s Park in January but failed in their attempts to sign him.

Osimhen has been in fine goal-scoring form this season for Napoli, in all competitions, he has featured 32 times, whilst netting 18 times and chipping in with a further six assists.

With the Magpies showing interest previously for Osimhen, O’Rourke has claimed to GiveMeSport that it would be a dream signing for Eddie Howe if he was to sign for the club this summer.

“Dream signing. It would be a real statement signing. We’re still really to see a huge marquee signing for Newcastle since the change of ownership, obviously did some good business in January and doing some good deals this summer as well.

“But someone like a Victor Osimhen would be a marquee signing because he’s probably among the top strikers in Europe right now with a host of clubs chasing his signature,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Newcastle have already acquired two defenders this summer transfer window, so Eddie Howe might be keen to make his next signing an attacker. The club were on the brink of signing Hugo Ekitike, but altercations with his agent has meant that the deal has fallen through, so the hunt for a new striker continues.

Osimhen would be a great option for Newcastle, he is 23 years old and has a great goal-scoring record, scoring 24 goals in 51 appearances in the Serie A over the past two seasons, but his current market value is £60 million, and with other top clubs across Europe showing interest in him, it could be a difficult one for the Magpies to get over the line.
