Journalist Michael Bridge has claimed that he is surprised at the little summer business that Newcastle United have done this summer.
Premier League outfit Newcastle United have made three summer transfers so far, Nick Pope, Sven Botman, and the permanent signing of Matt Target from Aston Villa, and the trio equal to just under £60 million in transfer fees.
In January, Eddie Howe thought it was best to make wholesale changes to the side, he brought in Kieran Trippier, Matt Target (on loan), Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, and Chris Wood, who all played a part in helping the Magpies climb out of the relegation zone, and finish 11th in the Premier League.
Even though Newcastle have signed six players across two transfer windows since the Saudi takeover, Michael Bridge spoke on The Transfer Show and claimed that he is surprised by the lack of business from the Magpies this summer.
(2:53) “ I have to be honest, I am a little bit surprised Newcastle haven’t done more business at the moment, perhaps they are being sensible though and they are ready to burst nearer the end, or they don’t want to be held to ransom with this money they’ve got now and they need to be careful,” Bridge said.

Although Newcastle’s squad is only looking two players different in terms of new talent coming in from last season, they have already spent nearly £60 million, so even though they have the new Saudi ownership, it is important that they don’t go overboard and abide by the FFP rules.
It is also important to note how well the Magpies side did in the second half of last season, so Howe might feel that to continue with this progression, then he does not need to make wholesale changes every transfer window, so to avoid making the squad disjointed, he might opt to add just a few key players every window.
