Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Newcastle United are interested in Diaby but the asking price could be an issue for those at the club.
Newcastle United are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing Moussa Diaby this summer transfer window, but luring him to the Premier League could prove a difficult task as Bayern Leverkusen have put a £50 million price tag on the French international.
Diaby was in impressive form last season for Leverkusen in terms of stats, he featured 42 times in all competitions, netted 17 times, and also chipped in with 14 assists, which has been enough to get him a call-up to the French national squad.
Despite Newcastle showing interest in Diaby, Crook has claimed to GiveMeSport that the Magpies aren’t willing to spend this type of money on one player at this stage of their rebuild.
“They do like Diaby, but I think £50million is a bit rich for Newcastle at this stage.
“They’re determined not to pay over the odds for players. Dan Ashworth, Amanda Staveley and Eddie Howe are all very much on the same song sheet with that,” Crook said.

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…
Diaby was one of the standout performers last season for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, he was the club’s second top goal contributor with 25, he created the most big chances (15) and he averaged the second most amount of key passes on average per game (1.9), as per Sofascore.
With the impressive stats last season for Leverkusen, there is no surprise that Eddie Howe has shown interest, and he would be a great addition to the squad, especially with him being just 22 years old, as he could be part of the long-term future of the club.
However, with his current contract not expiring for another three years, and his impressive stats at such a young age, he could prove too expensive for Newcastle United, with them already spending almost £60 million this summer.
