According to 90 min journalist Graeme Bailey, Newcastle United should be looking to bring in Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka this summer as he is a wonderful talent for the future.
The Magpies are looking to bolster their squad further this summer with more attacking options with links to the likes of Jack Harrison, Maxwel Cornet, and Hugo Ekitike to aid the likes of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin.
However, according to Bailey, Newcastle should be looking at a surprising prospect in Chukwuemeka, as the player is hugely talented and the 18-year-old has come up on the market to partner with star man Bruno Guimaraes.
Bailey said on the LOADED MAG NUFC transfer show, “Centre midfield, next to Bruno is an area I think they would like to do if it’s possible. Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa has come up on the market, he’s an outstanding player.
“There are players out there if they were to come up on the market Newcastle will be in the mix for… He’s a wonderful talent he really is, he’s outstanding. He’s one of the ones that PIF, outside the budget they would do that deal.” (8:36)
TIF Thoughts on Chukwuemeka to Newcastle…
This could end up being a big deal, especially as Bailey states it could be ‘outside the budget’ and the Magpies have been quoted £20m.
While Newcastle is looking to build to break into the top six now, bringing in young players like Chukwuemeka who can develop under Eddie Howe and be great in the future should also be a top priority, to make sure they are good for the future, not just now.
The Villa youngster could be this guy as he has received tons of praise in his limited minutes in the Premier League. Former Arsenal star Paul Merson labelled the player as ‘outstanding’ and claimed ‘he has got a bright future’ after watching him against Brentford last season.
The Englishman only made 12 appearances in the Premier League last season but managed to get an assist. He also played in the Premier League 2 where he bagged two goals and two assists in just six games.
Talk Sport reported that Villa are looking for around £20m for the 18-year-old, and while this could be a steep price for someone who is as inexperienced as him, Newcastle have almost unlimited resources with their new owners and it is hard to see how investing this amount into Chukwuemeka could be a bad deal.
