Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the top priority for Newcastle United this summer is a striker but they want to find the right one.
Premier League outfit Newcastle were on the brink of completing a deal to sign Hugo Ekitike this summer, with terms agreed with the player and Reims, but due to demands from the player’s agent, the deal fell through and the French forward has now signed for Paris Saint-Germain.
The Magpies have also been heavily linked with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ivan Toney this summer, as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his attacking options before the summer transfer window ends.
With Newcastle being linked with several strikers, Romano spoke to GiveMeSport recently and claimed that a striker is now the main priority for the Magpies, having now upgraded their defence with the signing of Sven Botman earlier in the window.
“I think signing a striker is the priority for them right now. ‘The priority for them’ – Fabrizio Romano now issues big PIF transfer claim at NUFC – who has been a top deal in defence – the priority will be for a striker, but they want to find the right one,” Romano said.

Callum Wilson was the club’s top scorer last term in the Premier League, but he has proven to be injury prone after failing to reach more than 26 appearances in the top flight over his past two seasons, and Chris Wood has not hit the ground running since signing in January after scoring just two goals in 17 league games.

It looked like the Magpies will have sorted their striker issue out when they were inches away from signing Ekitike, but unfortunately, that deal fell through. And so Howe has had to turn his focus elsewhere in an attempt to bring in a forward that can find the back of the net and take them to the next level in the upcoming campaign.
