Dean Jones has claimed that Newcastle United still want to sign big players in three different positions this summer.

The journalist stated that the Magpies still want to sign a centre-forward, and a wide-forward, and another midfielder this summer. Jones told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s worth pointing out that Newcastle do still want another midfielder.

“So, at the moment when it seems like things are quiet around Newcastle, it’s not.

“They’re working on a wide forward, a centre-forward and a midfielder.

“There’s three big positions and three big signings still to come.”

They’ve certainly got the financial backing these days, too, as proven by their spending since the takeover. In total, they’ve splashed £59.4 million this summer, which comes after the £105.39 million that they spent in January.

With over a month left until the summer transfer window slams shut, too, Newcastle have got plenty of time to invest in the necessary positions in order to reach their ambitions next season.

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ Comments…

It comes as little surprise that they reportedly want a striker, in particular, with Callum Wilson’s injury history limiting his game-time, and leaving Newcastle without a consistent option to lead the line.

Meanwhile, signing a winger that has the same impact as Allan Saint-Maximin, who had 10 goal involvements last season, would also provide a boost to Newcastle’s frontline. To finish off their summer spending, a midfielder, as per Jones, is also on the list.

If they can sign big players in all three targeted positions, then Newcastle should be a frightening prospect next season. We are watching the Magpies step into a new era. One filled with all the hope in the world; one, potentially, filled with silverware for the first time in forever.

Eddie Howe will know how important a good start is next season. He’s been backed financially so far at the club. Now, he must repay that trust in his first full campaign.
