Manchester United are interested in bringing in a new backup goalkeeper this summer with a deal for Thomas Strakosha now ‘having legs’.

This has been suggested by TalkSport transfer guru Alex Crook, who believes the free agent could be a real option for the Red Devils.

United have already seen last season’s No 2, Dean Henderson, leave on loan for the 2022/23 campaign for newly-promoted Nottingham Forest.

The Albanian shot-stopper has already gathered plenty of experience in the Italian top flight, having played his football with Lazio since 2012.

Given David de Gea has cemented his spot as the starting goalkeeper at Old Trafford, Crook not only believes the 27-year-old could be headed for Manchester, but could also offer the Spaniard some competition.

He said: “The goalkeeper you mentioned is not somebody I know a great deal about. Indeed, I only got given his name by our colleague up in the Midlands, Geoff Peters, earlier today but it does seem to have legs.

“Thomas Strakosha, he’s a Greek-Albanian who was playing for Lazio. He’s available on a free transfer, but I’m told he’s decent. You know, I’m told that he can put a bit of pressure on David de Gea.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Although this may not be the most exciting of potential arrivals at Old Trafford this summer, it is certainly an area which needs addressing.

Do you think Henderson has a future at MUFC?

Fortunately, De Gea has not picked up any major injuries for United recently, however, with Europa League football to compete in, a strong backup goalkeeper could prove very useful for Erik ten Hag.

Although this could prove a useful addition, we are sure fans will be hoping the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Frenkie De Jong are added to the squad to improve Ten Hag’s starting XI.
