Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo will look to leave Manchester United on loan this summer if a permanent transfer isn’t possible.

The Portugal ace finally reported back to pre-season training on Tuesday and was spotted arriving at Carrington with his agent Jorge Mendes ahead of talks with the club as he looked to resolve his future.

The 37-year-old is said to have asked the club to let him leave should a suitable bid arrive, but boss Erik ten Hag has reinforced the fact that he is not for sale and is part of his plans for the forthcoming season (Express).

However, Sky Sports News understands that is their ‘public stance’ and that privately, they are willing to listen to offers.

But with Sky reporter Melissa Reddy also detailing his lack of options, Ronaldo may have to stay put, although Jacobs has now revealed that there could be another way out of Old Trafford for the 698-goal superstar.

Speaking on The Done Deal Show, he claimed: “The situation as stands, is that if Ronaldo cannot find a permanent move – and he does not have a 100% concrete offer at this point – he would like to be loaned out, and that’s the next stage in the negotiations right now.

“Manchester United are considering whether they might be open to a loan deal, and the challenge of a loan is that if Ronaldo is scoring goals for fun and Manchester United are not or do not replace him should they loan him out, then that loan is going to come under scrutiny and overshadow Manchester United’s season.”

As outlined by Sportsmail, Ronaldo still has an affinity with the Red Devils, but wants to be playing in the Champions League. However, his future still remains up in the air.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich have ‘distanced’ themselves from a deal, as have Napoli and a number of elite clubs across Europe that Mendes has offered him to, and while Reddy did discuss an ‘astronomical’ offer that he has from Saudi Arabia, that doesn’t give him what he wants – and that is to be dining at Europe’s top table for a 20th consecutive season, so perhaps he will have to stay put.
