Noted insider ‘ExWHUemployee’ has claimed that he is surprised to hear the news that Liverpool could sell Roberto Firmino this summer.

According to recent reports in the Italian media, Juventus are keen on buying the Brazilian and plan to make an improved offer on their initial £19.5m bid for the player.

While discussing the news on The Transfer Show podcast, Ex claimed that it would be a ‘strange decision’ if Liverpool were to accept the bid as he will provide great depth in their title challenge next season.

The transfer guru explained: “Liverpool are still undecided whether to accept a £20m bid from Juventus for Firmino.

“Firmino is 30 now. Seems a bit of a strange decision, in my eyes, to sell him. I know they’ve bought in Nunez to play up front, but when you are pushing for the title, it’s always good to have a backup option and Firmino’s proven he can fit in with their success. So I would be surprised if he goes.”

Should Liverpool sell Roberto Firmino to Juventus for £20m?

TIF Thoughts on Roberto Firmino and Liverpool…

As Ex mentions, the Reds have recently added Nunez to their attack and so they now have him, Firmino and the likes of Luis Diaz, Fabio Carvalho, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott as options in their frontline.

However, with Sadio Mane off to Bayern Munich, the club will have lost one of the more experienced members of the squad, and so it could be foolish to ship off 30-year-old Firmino in the same summer.

Indeed, the Brazilian has played 327 times for Liverpool over the years and is just two goals shy of bringing up his century. If he was to leave, Jurgen Klopp may well come to regret it as the Premier League season wears on.

However, with a bid possible in the region of at least £20m to arrive from Juventus and with Firmino having just one year left on his contract, this offer could be too good to refuse.
