Journalist Phil Hay has admitted that he doesn’t see Tyler Roberts playing for Leeds United again.

Despite being around the club for a number of years, Roberts has never been able to establish himself as a key player at Leeds, racking up just 21 league starts since the Whites were promoted into the Premier League.

His severe lack of meaningful game time appears to have also taken a turn for the worse under Jesse Marsch, with the Wales international heading out on loan to the Championship with QPR – something that could bring an end to his time at Elland Road.

And Hay has made a bold claim while speaking on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show about the future of Roberts, with the west Londoners’ option to buy him outright appearing to imply there is no way back to the first team for the forward.

Will Roberts play for Leeds again?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

He said: “I would suspect that we’ve seen the last of Roberts. The QPR thing, from what I can understand, will be a bit dependent on how the season goes for them potentially and whether they go up.

“But the fact that there is a permanent option in it tells you that they’ve reached the point now where Roberts and the club are starting to think about him being elsewhere long-term.”

TIF Thoughts on Tyler Roberts…

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

It may be quite surprising to some people that Roberts is still just 23 years old considering how long he’s been in and around first-team football for both club and country, however, the step up into the Premier League looks to have been too much, and potentially too soon.

As Hay alluded to, Leeds inserting an option to buy at the end of the loan deal really does suggest that Leeds no longer want to see him playing in the famous white shirt at Elland Road.
