Journalist Lee Sobot has claimed that Leeds United youngster Crysencio Summerville is a serious option for Jesse Marsch this season following the injury to Luis Sinisterra.
Prior to Raphinha completing his exit away from Elland Road, Leeds managed to bring in 23-year-old Sinisterra from Feyenoord, but Leeds fans will have to wait before seeing him in a competitive match.
This is because the Colombian was forced off with a hamstring injury while out in Australia on Leeds’ pre-season tour, which has now raised questions as to who will be starting out wide come the opening game of the season – especially with Daniel James still suspended.
Sobot believes that Summerville, who appeared to fall out with the club last season when he wasn’t allowed to leave in January on loan, is now a leading candidate to feature under Marsch.
Do you want Summerville to start vs Wolves?
He wrote: “Brenden Aaronson has looked very lively in the no 10 role in pre-season and the preferred goal would surely be to keep him there but it must be remembered that the USA international can play anywhere across the offensive midfield sphere and thus on either flank.
“In that event, Rodrigo or possibly Joe Gelhardt could fill the no 10 or second striker position, but exciting young natural winger Crysencio Summerville is another leading option to start out wide. Rather like Gelhardt, the more minutes he gets this season the better.”
TIF Thoughts on Summerville…
The young Dutch winger is still yet to make his mark on the first team with Leeds since moving to England back in 2020, despite having been named on the bench several times last season.
However, with a new manager now at the helm and Raphinha – who often stole the show at Leeds – having left the club, this could be the season where many people recognise the name Summerville and he proves to be an option moving forward.
This is because Marsch is clearly not scared to hand youngsters minutes, proven by the roles Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt played often last campaign, and also by the high praise Marsch handed to 16-year-old Archie Gray this pre-season.
