Journalist Graeme Bailey has said that he would be ‘very surprised’ if Leeds United allowed Jack Harrison to leave this summer.
According to reports, Newcastle United are keen on signing the Whites’ winger and some supporters already seem concerned by the possible situation on their hands.
To make things worse, Harrison recently poured fuel on the flames to the rumours by saying ‘we’ll see’ when asked if he could be staying or going this summer.
However, while speaking as a guest on the One Leeds Fan Channel, Bailey explained that he doesn’t think Leeds will sell and the recent injury to Luis Sinisterra may have made this all the more unlikely.
He said (1:51): “The issue is Newcastle don’t value him at £30m, Leeds see him at about £35m. Leeds don’t want to sell. You know you are playing with these out and out wingers, you need three.
“You’ve got Sinestera who obviously got injured today. So that maybe plays into Leeds hands for not letting Harrison go. You’ve got Dan James. So I think that’s quite a good little winger room you’ve got there.
Could you see Jack Harrison leaving Leeds this summer?
“And yeah, I think it’d take a lot to get Jack out, it really would. I think £35m plus add ons is what I’m being told, and I don’t think Newcastle are going to pay that for him.
“I think he possibly is worth that, but I think that’s his ceiling, so to speak. And no, I’d be very, very surprised if Leeds caved in and allowed him to leave.”
TIF thoughts on Jack Harrison and Leeds…
With Leeds left sweating over the possible fitness of new £20m summer signing Sinisterra – after he limped off in a preseason friendly agains Crystal Palace – it’s easy to see why they would be even more against letting Harrison go.
On top of that, of course, they have already lost Raphinha this summer, who joined Barcelona recently, so the Whites aren’t necessarily in a position where you would expect them to be trying to offload more of their proven wingers.
It does really seem as though the ball is in Leeds’ court and they would only sell if a very tempting offer came in. However, with Bailey stating that Newcastle don’t want to meet his supposed transfer evaluation, it looks like Harrison might not be on the move after all.
