Journalist Conor McGilligan expressed his disappointment over the idea that Leeds United could sign Tyler Adams in midfield this summer amid links to RB Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara.
As things stand, the Whites will need to find someone to replace Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the park. Indeed, the England international has joined Manchester City for a reported £45m.
With that in mind, Adams has been linked with a move to the Premier League club, with The Athletic recently stating that RB Leipzig could allow the 23-year-old to leave on a temporary basis with a view to making it a permanent switch.
However, while speaking about the possible deal on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan outlined his issues with the deal.
He said: “I’d be really disappointed with Tyler Adams. I can’t lie. I can’t lie, I’d be disappointed with Tyler Adams. So I am sort of hoping that doesn’t happen.
“It’s almost like, what’s the ambition? You know, are there really any other clubs in for him? I think Sevilla had a little bit of interest.
“But then you look at Mo Camara and there’s three or four clubs in for him – it’s going to cost a lot of money because he’s a quality player, you get what you pay for.
“I think a lot of Leeds fans will be really disappointed if we were to then get Tyler Adams, it’d feel a real step down.”
TIF thoughts on Tyler Adams and Leeds…
In the past season, Adams did only start 12 league games for Leipzig – while failing to score – so he clearly isn’t the most important player in that team.
In comparison, other rumoured Leeds target Camara played regularly from the start in the league and Champions League for RB Salzburg.
Taking that into account, it’s not hard to see why McGilligan is a little underwhelmed by the idea that Adams could be the man brought in to replace Phillips rather than the Mali international.
Even so, with plenty of time left in the market, it remains to be seen as to whether or not Leeds end up signing the American, and if they purchase any other midfielders, too.
Totally agree that Adams can never be a replacement of Philips
