Leeds United: Journalist makes claim on potential summer signing

|

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United have a chance at signing Ivan Toney in this summer transfer window if they offer a ludicrous deal.

According to The Sun, Leeds have made signing a striker their main priority in this summer transfer window, and Jesse Marsch is supposedly going to battle it out with fellow Premier League side Newcastle United for Ivan Toney.

Toney had an impressive first season in the Premier League last term with Brentford, he netted 12 times and chipped in with five assists for the Bees in 33 top flight appearances.

Despite Leeds United being interested in signing Toney this summer, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he can’t see Brentford selling their striker unless a major offer comes in.

“With Brentford, I just can’t see them selling Toney unless a ludicrous offer lands. I think he wouldn’t be a bad option at all if you want somebody to backup Bamford,” Jones said.

“As it stands, Bamford should be fit to start the season. But from his past, we know that like the likelihood of him getting through an entire season is slim. So that’d be an interesting one if they were willing to stump up a lot of money.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…

Patrick Bamford was not able to feature regularly last season for Leeds due to fitness issues – which limited him to just nine Premier League appearances for the Whites. So Marsch will likely be keen to bring in another forward, in case any injury problems to their striker occur again.

Do you think Toney will sign for Leeds?

No

Toney could be a good option for Leeds because of his 17-goal contributions last season for Brentford in the top flight, but it might prove difficult to lure him away from his current side as he still has three years remaining in his contract and he is very much the main man for the Bees.
