Leeds United: Conor McGilligan thinks club close to signing Charles De Ketelaere replacement

|

Journalist Conor McGilligan has claimed that Leeds United could land target Charles De Ketelaere soon after a recent development.

It is so no secret that the Whites are in for the Belgian 21-year-old in what could end up being a pretty exciting summer transfer.

And it looks as though their hopes of signing the midfielder could be set for a big boost with his current side Club Brugge seemingly lining up a possible replacement already.

Indeed, according to le10sport (via GFFN) the Belgian outfit are keen on signing Sochaux’s 19-year-old Alan Virginius. Upon hearing this news, McGilligan claimed that this could prove that a ‘contingency plan’ is being put in place for when Leeds sign De Ketelaere.

While speaking on the One Leeds Fan YouTube channel, he said (8:43): “Club Brugge are looking to sign Sochaux’s forward Alan Virginius.

“Which is interesting, because obviously Leeds are targeting Charles De Ketelaere as well. And this Sochaux’s forward in Alan Virginius is actually a centre forward.

“So potentially there is a little replacement already, and they’re getting the contingency plans already sorted for when De Ketelaere does move to Leeds – and hopefully that’s going to be coming soon.”

TIF thoughts on Charles De Ketelaere and Leeds…

Considering De Ketelaere has impressed Pep Guardiola in the past, enough to see him linked with a move to Manchester City, it’s not hard to understand why McGilligan is hoping for the player to end up at Leeds.

If Brugge do end up landing Virginius it certainly could open up the door for a sale to the Premier League club. However, it seems as though Newcastle United are also interested in signing the Sochaux attacker – which could put a spanner in the works for the Whites transfer hopes.

With a lot of moving parts to keep track of at the moment, it does seem as though a move for De Ketelaere could be somewhat complicated. Even so, McGilligan is still clearly hopeful that a deal will be sorted ‘soon’.
