Journalist James Marshment has urged Leeds United to go out and sign back Gjanni Alioski this summer on a free transfer.

The North Macedonian left the Whites last summer but has recently terminated his contract with Saudi club Al-Ahli after they were relegated from the Saudi Pro League (via LeedsLive).

Considering some who follow the club closely believe that Leeds could do with signing a new left-back in the summer, the idea of a move for their former defender may well be an enticing idea.

Marshment certainly seems to be one who subscribes to that idea. Indeed, he took to Twitter recently to claim as much, stating that it would be ‘mad’ to pass up on this opportunity.

In full, he wrote: “Gjanni Alioski available on a free transfer. Be mad not to bring him home. Was a huge miss for Leeds last season and can cover a variety of positions. No brainer for me….”

TIF thoughts on Gjanni Alioski and Leeds…

It’s probably fair to say Junior Firpo didn’t have the best of debut season last term as he looked to replace the departing Alioski, who was shocked by Raphinha’s willingness to defend. Marshment was actually so unhappy with his efforts he slammed Leeds United director of football Victor Orta for making the signing in the first place.

In comparison, the North Macedonian’s time with the Whites was a lot more sturdy. Alioski left the club after a four-year spell, having made 171 appearances, scored 22 goals and helped the team secure promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

When you look at it like that, it’s easy to see why some, such as Marshment, aren’t particularly satisfied with Firpo and feel as though the club miss their former left-back option.

However, it remains to be seen as to whether or not the Leeds board with the same way. But with Alioski available on a free transfer a reunion could well be too tempting to pass up.
