Fabrizio Romano has claimed on the Wondergoal podcast that Frank Lampard is pushing for Everton to sign Levi Colwill.

Everton have already addressed the centre-back department this summer by winning the race to sign free agent James Tarkowski, who Lampard has already labelled as a leader within the Toffees squad.

While the signing of Tarkowski is promising and a solid addition for Everton, they may well need further reinforcements at the back considering they had the fifth-worst defence in the Premier League last season.

Romano believes that Everton are targeting Colwill from Chelsea, who is now assessing his options.

He said: “I think Levi Colwill will leave the club. He’s already exploring options – Southampton and Everton are really keen on signing him, let’s see if it will be a permanent deal, because it’s a possibility.

“The player wants to play, he wants to have the opportunity to have some game time.

Do Everton need to sign another centre back?

“And so I think this is a very interesting opportunity for Everton, because of course, Frank Lampard knows him and he’s pushing to sign him, but Southampton are still there.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton’s interest in Colwill…

Everton will be hopeful that Lampard’s pull of having worked closely with Colwill during his time at Chelsea will help them land the teenager, who spent last season out on loan at Huddersfield Town.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

However, given the Toffees have Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate in that same position, Colwill may not be confident of getting enough minutes to warrant a move to Goodison Park this summer as he looks to make the step up into the Premier League.
