Journalist Tony Scott has claimed that Everton need to improve several areas of the pitch this summer to be ready for next season.

After struggling last season in the Premier League, having finished just two places above the drop zone, Everton have only been able to bring in one player so far in the summer transfer window – that being James Tarkowski on a free transfer.

However, the Toffees have been linked with Harry Winks, who featured sparingly for Tottenham Hotspur last season, with the midfielder starting just nine times in the league, which may mean he is deemed surplus to requirements in north London and that he could be available for Frank Lampard to buy this summer.

With Everton making just one signing so far, Scott spoke on the All Together Now Everton podcast and claimed that they need a major revamp at the football club on and off the pitch.

He said: “We need a right-back. We need a minimum of two centre-midfielders – minimum. We need a No 10, we need now a winger. Honestly, I look at it now and it’s a major, major revamp at Everton Football Club on and off the pitch.”

TIF Thoughts on Scott’s comments…

This will be the first summer that Lampard has been at the helm as manager of Everton, and situations behind the scenes may have made it difficult for the manager to spend big money to improve his squad ahead of next season.

However, the recent departure of Richarlison for £60m has hopefully meant that Lampard can start to bring in more players he wants in order to make sure that Everton have a better season than the last campaign.

Although it might be deemed as a bad thing for the Toffees to lose their top goalscorer, it is clear that there are several areas of the pitch that need improvement for Everton, so Lampard might see the departure of the Brazilian as an opportunity to bring in several new players.
