Tony Scott has claimed on the All Together Now podcast that he doesn’t want to see Ross Barkley return to Everton.

The Toffees academy graduate burst onto the scene back during the 2013/14 season and became a regular in the team very quickly, which saw him earn England call-ups before a January 2018 move to Chelsea stagnated his career and he’s never been the same since.

Since Barkley left Goodison Park, he’s only managed to start 16 league games for Chelsea, while he also failed to impress on loan at Aston Villa during the 2020/21 campaign, unable to maintain his promising start in the Midlands after registering three goal involvements in his first five games.

However, an emotional return to Everton has been mooted, although that wouldn’t please Scott.

He said: “A few managers at Chelsea have seen him, he’s not done much when he was on loan at Aston Villa, so it’s a big fat no for me.”

TIF Thoughts on a potential Barkley return…

For some Evertonians, bringing in Barkley may seem like a similar deal which saw Dele Alli arrive in January – a former England international who lost his way at a top club and wasn’t fancied by several managers – and it’s safe to say that after one league start for Everton last season, Alli wasn’t a success.

However, others may see it as the perfect time for Barkley to come back at 28 and reignite his career at his boyhood club under a manager in Frank Lampard who has worked with him before at Chelsea and actually handed Barkley his most starts in a single league campaign out of any Chelsea boss.
