Journalist Connor O’Neill has written about Tom Davies and how he could be handed a potential role at Everton after his pre-season performances.

The Toffees managed to secure a much-needed win in pre-season which saw them put four past Championship outfit Blackpool in which several players got significant minutes such as Salomon Rondon, Dele Alli and Davies.

It’s the latter that seems to have caught the eye after missing much of last season, with the Everton academy graduate only featuring for 78 minutes under Frank Lampard during their relegation battle due to injury.

This season could be a different one, however, as O’Neill claims Davies has left Lampard with options in midfield.

He said: “After missing a large chunk of last season, the midfielder got minutes in the tank, here. His efforts were rewarded with a goal and his performance will have certainly given Lampard much to ponder as he considers his midfield options.”

TIF Thoughts on Davies’ future…

With the Toffees seeing both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fabian Delph depart the club as free agents, it leaves Lampard with fewer options in the midfield department, so if Davies can remain fit, he could have a big role to play this season.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

Last term was a torrid campaign for Davies, who was left out of Everton’s 25-man squad by Lampard after being hampered with injuries, so an impressive pre-season was much-needed for the midfielder.

Hopefully, his latest outing is a sign that he is ready to bounce back stronger than ever and stake a claim to become one of Lampard’s trusted starters in the forthcoming season.
