It has been reported that Everton are interested in making a sensational move for their former player, who has been plying his trade out in France with Paris Saint-Germain since leaving Goodison Park in 2019.
However, while some Evertonians may have fond memories of Gueye and his time with the club, he is set to turn 33 later this year, so he wouldn’t exactly be a signing the Toffees should be making if they are planning for the future – and instead could be a potentially expensive stopgap.
And O’Keeffe couldn’t hide his lack of excitement over links to Gueye as he spoke on the All Together Now podcast.
He said: “Not mega enthusiastic about it, to be honest. I think it would have to be, for me, to feel that it was in any way a positive would be for it to be on loan.
Would you like Everton to sign Gueye?
“He’s 33 in September. I’d have to go away and study, and I will go away and look at the numbers and see whether or not his game has deteriorated as he’s got a bit older in Paris. He’s clearly a player that PSG want to move on, and I think that’s why we’re seeing all these links.”
TIF Thoughts on Everton’s interest in Gueye…
Despite Fabrizio Romano claiming Everton have approached PSG over Gueye this summer, it doesn’t make sense for the Toffees to try and land someone who is on the wrong side of 30 and would likely demand rather high wages, given he’s currently at one of the richest clubs in the world.
However, given his age, he simply doesn’t fit into what Frank Lampard is seemingly trying to build at Everton, which is a young and hungry squad littered with homegrown talents such as Anthony Gordon, Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski.
