Everton are said to be one of the teams in hot pursuit of Broja, who jetted off from Chelsea’s pre-season tour earlier this summer to try and sort out his future, although Thomas Tuchel has recently said he doesn’t expect the striker to leave.
Broja enjoyed a breakout season last time out with Southampton which saw him net nine goals in 38 games, and that convinced West Ham to ramp up their interest in the striker, although the arrival of Gianluca Scamacca may well have put a stop to their interest.
This is what O’Keeffe believes could help Everton in their pursuit of the Albanian, with the Hammers seemingly having dropped out of the race.
Will Everton manage to sign Broja?
He said: “Obviously, we need a striker to complement Calvert-Lewin, I do find some – well, not reassurance because they’re still a long way off being able to get a deal done – but I know that obviously, West Ham decided to go ahead with Gianluca Scamacca, so they look like that’s done for them.
“So maybe their focus has moved away from Armando Broja, and given that he wants to leave Chelsea, perhaps that gives us an opening again to be able to maybe get him on loan or if they want to somehow put together a deal to buy him permanently.”
TIF Thoughts on Everton’s pursuit of Broja…
It’s no surprise that Everton are looking at Broja, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin appears to have picked up another injury, having missed their latest pre-season friendly, while the Toffees are yet to replace Richarlison, who finished last season as their top scorer.
Broja would arrive Premier League-proven having already netted nine goals at the top level and led the line for Southampton at the age of 20, and if they could strike up a loan deal, it would also help the Toffees financially while providing an exciting goalscorer.
