Journalist Greg O’Keeffe has admitted on the latest episode of the All Together Now podcast that he’s confident over Anthony Gordon’s Everton future.

The Toffees academy product enjoyed a breakout season during Everton’s miserable relegation battle, but the youngster’s place in the starting lineup was very rarely in doubt, especially under current manager Frank Lampard – starting all but two league matches since he took over.

However, his emergence has brought about some interest from fellow Premier League clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, which has seen Everton open new contract talks with the winger.

Despite these links, O’Keeffe is confident about Gordon staying and thriving at Goodison Park.

He said: “I do believe it’s more likely than not that he will go on to become a top player, and therefore, a lot of clubs are probably sensing Everton are vulnerable this window and trying to take the mickey a little bit and swoop in with cheaper bids than they would have to pay in 12 months’ time or two years’ time.

Is £35 million good value for Gordon?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“So they’re trying to buy from us at a knockdown price and then they know themselves they’ll have someone who, if they spent £35-40m in this window, somebody who’d be worth potentially more.

“It’s a risk because he might not kick on, but I think it’s more likely that he will, and they’d have an asset which we’ve been forced to sell. So, therefore, I think giving him that contract, if and when that does transpire, it just makes sense from our point of view, really.”

TIF Thoughts on Gordon’s future…

It’s no surprise that Everton are very desperate to keep hold of Gordon given their perilous financial situation which has limited their transfer spending, so having a ready-made player that cost them nothing is the best way to develop their club organically.

As it stands, Gordon has a contract that runs until the summer of 2025, however, given he only emerged as a first-team talent last season, his current deal will not likely represent his contributions to the team fairly, so it feels as if a new deal should be forthcoming very soon.
