Everton are showing a serious interest in the possibility of signing young midfielder Billy Gilmour this summer.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has been discussing Frank Lampard’s interest in the Chelsea man on the Que Golazo YouTube channel.

It has been a slow start to the summer window on Merseyside for the Toffees, with just the one new face coming through the doors in James Tarkowski.

After what was a dreadful campaign last time out for Lampard’s side, it seems there are no major signs of improvement this summer, with Richarlison now no longer with the club.

But now, Romano believes Lampard has his eyes on the young prospect – hailed “fantastic” by Roy Keane – from his former club with the new campaign quickly approaching.

He said: “It is true that Everton are interested in Gilmour, but it is still not agreed with Chelsea.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Gilmour endured a difficult 2021/22 campaign, as the 21-year-old spent the season out on loan with Norwich City but only made 24 appearances in the Premier League.

Would Gilmour improve Everton's midfield?

Yes

Yes

No

No

With just the one assist to show for his season away from Stamford Bridge and still without more than 24 league games to his name in one season, this feels like a big ask for the youngster to improve Everton’s midfield.

And with just over one week until the new season kicks off, we feel as if there is still an awful lot of improvement which needs to be made at Everton.

So we are interested to see whether Everton develop their interest in Gilmour over the coming days and weeks, and whether a potential reunion with Lampard will help the Scotsman reignite his career after an underwhelming spell out on loan last year.
