Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Steven Bergwijn could join Everton this summer with a potential deal of Richarlison going the other way.

There have been reports stating that Steven Bergwijn could join Premier League side Everton this summer, in a swap deal plus cash for Richarlison, who Tottenham Hotspur are keen on luring away from Goodison Park.

Bergwijn was out of favour for Spurs last season, he made 25 appearances in the Premier League, but just four of those came from the start, so the Dutch winger might be keen to part ways with the club this summer in search of regular game time.

With Bergwijn not featuring regularly for Spurs last season, O’Rourke claimed to GiveMeSport that it looks like he will leave the club this summer and Everton would be interested.

“Steven Bergwijn is a good player. It looks like he will be leaving Tottenham, so Tottenham tried to persuade Everton to do it [accept him as part of the Richarlison deal]. I’m sure Everton would be interested in doing a separate deal – get their money for Richarlison and then maybe buy Bergwijn if they’re able to,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Bergwijn, who was hailed as ‘excellent’ by Virgil van Dijk, has struggled to make his mark since signing for Spurs in January 2020, but before this, he was in fine form for PSV Eindhoven, in his last season and a half with the Dutch side, he featured 49 times in the Eredivisie, whilst scoring 19 goals and registering 22 assists along the way.

With the Dutch winger still being just 24 years old, he might be keen to exit Spurs in hope that he can get his career back on track and potentially reach similar numbers to what he was getting during his time with PSV, so he could be a good option for Everton because they will be able to offer him regular game time, in hope that he can return to good form.
