Greg O’Keeffe has delivered his verdict on Everton summer target and current free agent Jesse Lingard.

The England international has been without a club since the expiration of his Manchester United contract this summer. And, with links to West Ham, Everton, and the MLS, Lingard is yet to make his decision.

Speaking on The All Together Now Podcast, O’Keeffe delivered his verdict on the former United man, saying: “Maybe not for me, Lingard. I’d have my worries about that one, personally.”

Given Lingard’s age (29), and the fact that Everton signed Dele Alli in January – a player in a similar role to Lingard – the Toffees seem unlikely to make a move for the England international, who spent the majority of last season on the Manchester United bench.

Everton will know the importance of getting it right in the transfer market, especially in their situation as a club that just about avoided relegation last season. And signing 29-year-olds who haven’t had consistent game-time since the 2020/21 season may not do them any favours.

TIF Thoughts on Jesse Lingard…

Lingard – labelled “terrible” recently by Gary Neville – certainly has a big decision to make, and he doesn’t have long to do it, either, with pre-season now well underway. The Premier League season kicks off in under a month, and, by that point, the Englishman will hope to have a club.

With the World Cup coming up this winter, too, game-time couldn’t be more important. If Lingard wants a place in Gareth Southgate’s Qatar squad, then he’ll need to be playing every week at a consistent and competitive level throughout the first-half of next season.
