According to insider Dean Jones, Everton star man Dominic Calvert-Lewin is looking for reassurances the club will bring in help amid rumours their pursuit of Maxwel Cornet could be poached by Fulham.
After selling their best player in Richarlison, Everton has failed to bring in a replacement this summer but has recently been linked with Amxwel Cornet from Burnley, but it looks like they could face competition from Premier League new boys Fulham.
Much to the dismay of Everton fans, Jones believes that if Everton were to lose out Cornet to Fulham they are going to be in trouble and it could even lead to the departure of star striker Calvert-Lewin.
Jones said on the Chasing Green Arrows show, “I think Everton could be in real trouble again this season and Lampard really needs to do some work in the transfer market. Looking at their line-up in the Arsenal preseason friendly and it just doesn’t excite me at all, to be honest with you.
Calvert-Lewin is still there, for the time being, I’m sure he’s looking for some reassurance that other players are coming in like Max Cornet and stuff like that but even Fulham are trying to get him now and there’s a chance he’ll go to Fulham instead of Everton. If they start losing players like that to us, then they really are struggling.” (54:41)
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
Everton desperately needs to improve their side after their disastrous 21/22 campaign where they nearly faced relegation and have now lost Richarlison, who topped their scoring chart with 11 goals.
They have recently been linked with Cornet, who surprised at Burnley last season when he joined from Lyon last season as he bagged nine goals in the Premier League before their relegation. However, it would appear they are facing competition from Fulham, who have entered the race to sign the 25-year-old.
It is not surprising that Jones believes Calvert-Lewin could be looking to leave the club due to their poor transfer window so far and the fact they could end up losing a gifted player like Cornet, who could drastically help Calvert-Lewin next season, to a potential relegation battler.
Everton has a lot to do this summer without another star man wanting to leave, they need to move fast in the window otherwise they could face another relegation battle, without their two-star men.
