Everton: Dele Alli will come in for some stick as latest footage emerges

Everton midfielder Dele Alli missed an open goal from inside the six-yard box last night which just about summed up the team’s performance.

The Blues continued their pre-season tour of the USA but fell to a shocking and disappointing 4-0 loss at the hands of MLS outfit Minnesota United.

After an Emanuel Reynoso penalty had put the Western Conference side in front, Michael Keane scored an own goal to increase the deficit but it wasn’t the most embarrassing moment on the night for one of Frank Lampard’s men.

The Toffees went in 3-0 down at the break as Luis Amarilla bulged the net but before Abu Danladi completed the rout in the final quarter of an hour, Dele missed an absolute sitter to pull one back for the Merseysiders.

Somehow, having ghosted his way into the area, the former England international managed to divert his effort wide with the goal at his mercy as can be seen here:

TIF Thoughts on Alli and Everton…

Have you been disappointed with Dele Alli?

After a relegation-threatened campaign last term it really does look as if it could be another long drawn-out season for Evertonians.

Speaking to Everton TV (via Daily Mirror) Lampard warned his players that they could be in another relegation battle, while after the game Alli will have been doubting himself once more as his woes in blue continued.

He signed from Tottenham Hotspur in January for a fee that could reach up to £40m with the hope of reviving his dwindling career but the former 37-cap England ace has started just once in the Premier League for his new side.

There is no denying Dele is a far cry from his former self which saw him score ten league goals during his first season in the top flight followed by an incredible 18-goal haul at just 21, a year later.

And while his run into the box was reminiscent of his goalscoring instinct of the past, the finish highlights his lack of confidence, and one wonders will he ever be able to turn that around.

Bit harsh before a ball is kicked but who knows? Can’t blame Delli for being totally caught by surprise by ball into the box! Don’t think he even saw it until too late and by then it’s pot luck if the ball hits you and goes wide or into the he net!!??
