Crystal Palace’s interest in Botafogo striker Matheus Nascimento is something that can only excite fans this summer, says Pete O’Rourke.

That is according to Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This Futbol about the Eagles’ transfer plans this summer.

According to a report in Brazilian news outlet Lance, Patrick Vieira’s side are in talks for a possible move for the 18-year-old this summer, who has also attracted interest from Real Madrid.

Palace are likely to hold the advantage over the Spanish giants, due to the fact that co-owner John Textor is a majority shareholder in the Brazilian club, with the Série A club’s technical director Andre Mazzuco suggesting that the striker had been offered the chance to continue his development in the Premier League.

And O’Rourke believes that Eagles fans should be excited about the potential signing, with the prospect being very highly rated in his native South America.

“He’s very highly rated in South America and has even been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, so if Crystal Palace were in that market to try and sign a player such as Nascimento, I think that’s only something that can only excite Crystal Palace fans.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We believe that this is a signing that Palace fans could be very excited over, with all signs pointing towards the young striker having a successful future in the game.

Nascimento would be unlikely to break through into Palace’s first-team immediately, having only made 27 senior appearances for Botafogo during his career, though he has scored seven goals and provided one assist in that time, according to Transfermarkt.

But we think that as a future prospect, this is a signing that Palace fans and staff alike would be absolutely delighted to get over the line.
