Journalist Michael Bridge has claimed that Cheick Doucoure is close to signing for Crystal Palace in this summer transfer window.

There have been reports stating that Crystal Palace are close to signing Doucoure from Lens this summer, with an initial fee agreed of around £18m for his services.

Doucoure was a mainstay in the Lens side last season, as he featured 33 times in Ligue 1 whilst chipping in with one goal and three assists, while his current contract does not expire until 2024.

With Palace showing repeated interest in Doucoure, Bridge claimed on The Transfer Show that they are just waiting for the deal to be confirmed and it should not be an issue, with the player wanting the move.

He said: “They’re just waiting for it to all get confirmed – there shouldn’t be a problem, he wants to go to the club.

“Someone said to me they’ve replaced Conor Gallagher and Cheikhou Kouyate in one, he can do a bit of everything. He sounds like a very good player, reading up on him, it says he’s a nightmare for the opposition, so I think apart from Liverpool, Crystal Palace have been the best in terms of recruitment over the last two years.”

TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…

Conor Gallagher was Palace’s Player of the Season last term, but he has since returned to his parent club Chelsea, and a deal back to Selhurst Park may not be likely for the England international, so Patrick Vieira will have to try and find a replacement or attempt to change the system to deal with life without him.

Doucoure is just 22 years old, which fits the model that Vieira has been going for, with the Frenchman implementing youth into the side, as he gave regular first-team minutes to Tyrick Mitchell and Marc Guehi last term, so Doucoure could be one of those players that can be in the Palace side for the long-term future.
