Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Tyrone Mings should be worried after being stripped of the captaincy at Aston Villa ahead of the new season.
It was recently announced that Mings had been stripped of his duties ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign, with John McGinn taking the armband.
Mings was a regular in the England squad until being left out of the most recent camp, with young defenders such as Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori getting the nod over him.
After it was announced that Mings had been stripped of the captaincy by Steven Gerrard, Crook spoke on TalkSport and claimed that he is not even guaranteed a place in the starting XI next term.
Crook said: “If I was Tyrone Mings, I would be worried about this situation. I know that he took to Twitter and said that it’s not about him and John McGinn, it’s about what’s right for the club.
“He said that he has ‘no issues with the manager’s decision’ – I struggle to believe that, because it’s never a nice situation when you are stripped of the armband.
“I think it’s a reflection that maybe, Tyrone Mings, in a World Cup year, is not guaranteed his place in the Aston Villa starting lineup.”

Aston Villa had a busy start to the summer transfer window, as they brought in the likes of Diego Carlos for a fee in the region of £27.9m, so he may be expected to slot straight into the starting XI, which means one of the current central defenders will have to make way.
Mings being stripped of the captaincy could be an indication that his place in the starting XI is now under serious threat, especially with the introduction of Carlos, which could lead to him fighting for a place alongside the Brazilian with Ezri Konsa.
