Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Luis Suarez is not someone on Aston Villa’s interest this summer, despite links to a return to the Premier League.

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard previously played with Suarez and the Uruguayan striker is out of contract, having spent last season at Atletico Madrid. However, a move to the Premier League does not seem to be on the cards for him, with it being reported that he is close to joining River Plate.

Although Suarez does not look like he will be reuniting with Gerrard, he might be keen to bring in another striker to Villa Park over the summer, as Danny Ings failed to have an impact last term after scoring just seven goals in 30 Premier League games.

Whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Crook claimed that he has been told that Suarez is not someone who Villa will be pursuing this summer transfer window and they will look elsewhere for a striker.

“I do know that one or two superstar names have been mentioned.

“Luis Suárez is of no interest to Aston Villa.

“Signing Luis Suárez is obviously a lazy link there between Gerrard and Suárez, but I’m told that’s not one that they’re exploring,” Crook said.

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Villa had a disappointing end to last season as they finished 14th in the Premier League table, and Gerrard has not spent any time messing around, having already signed three players. However, he is not likely to stop there as he is yet to bring anyone in the attacking area of the field, apart from Philippe Coutinho, who spent last term on loan with the club.

Suarez was undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the world during his prime, but he is now 35 years old and was only able to start 20 games for Atletico last season, so he might not have been the best option for Gerrard to bring in as a starter this summer.
