Journalist Michael Bridge has claimed that if Arsenal manage to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer then it would be a clever move from Arteta.

It looks as if the Gunners are closing in on the signing of the Manchester City star, with a verbal agreement reached.

Zinchenko featured sporadically last season for Manchester City, he made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Manchester club, which included just 15 outings in the Premier League.

With Zinchenko linked to Arsenal over a potential move this summer, Bridge spoke on The Transfer Show and claimed that it would be a clever move from Arteta and he is highly rated by Pep Guardiola so he was surprised when it came out.

(4:46) “The latest one is Alexander Zinchenko, from Manchester City, I really like Zinchenko and I think this would be a clever move from Arteta if this happens because he knows the Premier League well, he is highly regarded by Pep Guardiola, so I was a little bit surprised when this one came out,” Bridge said.

TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…

Arsenal have been linked with Youri Tielemans and Lisandro Martinez this summer, but the former’s talks have cooled down a bit and Martinez looks like he will be signing for Manchester United. Even though Zinchenko has primarily played as a left-back for City, he features as a central midfielder for his country so could play there if he was to sign for Arsenal.

With Zinchenko having versatility, Arsenal struggled last season when it came to the left-back spot, as Kieran Tierney was injured in stages of the season, so if this happens again next term, then Zinchenko could drop out of the midfield and operate at left-back, the position where he featured for City.
