While speaking on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, journalist Dean Jones has admitted he can’t see Arsenal signing Memphis Depay.

There have been some reports suggesting that Arsenal are showing an interest in the Netherlands international, who experienced a less than fruitful season out in La Liga, managing just 12 goals for Barcelona after arriving on a free transfer.

His current club are also in a dire situation when it comes to their finances and seemingly will have to sell in order to fund moves such as the one they have lined up for Raphinha, although shipping Depay off to Arsenal may not be something currently on their mind, according to Jones.

The transfer guru has rubbished talk of the Gunners moving for Depay this summer.

Would you like Arsenal to sign Depay?

No!

He said: “The rumours out there – I’m not convinced it’s any more than agents at work right now, linking him with Arsenal, linking him with Tottenham. Are they just trying to raise some cash for Barcelona? That’s my cynical reading into this at a time when Barcelona are trying to raise funds.”

TIF Thoughts on Depay being linked with Arsenal…

Prior to Depay’s move to Barcelona, he was a very hot property across Europe, having recorded 51 goal involvements over his last two seasons for Lyon, however, he wasn’t been able to hit the same heights out in La Liga under new manager Xavi.

However, he won’t likely get a chance to prove them wrong at the Emirates Stadium considering the Gunners have just recently brought in Gabriel Jesus and also handed Eddie Nketiah a new contract, so bringing in a third forward, who would surely also want to be a regular starter, would not make sense for Mikel Arteta as it would be an extremely tough squad to manage.
