Presenter Chris Hamill has stated that Arsenal target Cody Gakpo would be a better alternative to Raphinha due to his price.

Earlier this summer, the Gunners tried to make a move for the Brazilian winger, but he opted to join Barcelona instead for a fee reported to be €65m (£55m).

According to journalist Rik Elfrink (via Terry Flewers), Arsenal are now looking at Gakpo but will have to pay somewhere around €40m (£33.9m) for him.

With that big price gap between the club’s two recent transfer targets, Hamill has stated that a move for the PSV winger is much better value for money.

On Twitter, he explained: “PSV’s Cody Gakpo heavily linked with Arsenal this morning for ~€40m…

” Cover along the frontline, means Saka stays on the right, won’t ‘demand’ first-team minutes… Much prefer this to the overpay for Raphinha.”

TIF Thoughts on Cody Gakpo and Arsenal…

Raphinha has wasted little time settling into life at Barcelona, scoring a screamer against bitter rivals Real Madrid in a recent pre-season friendly.

With that in mind, it’s no wonder he cost so much, but Hamill clearly thinks it’s better for Arsenal to sign a player who won’t come for so much money and offers versatility in attack.

Of course, Gakpo would still be able to offer plenty for the Gunners in an attacking sense, having scored 42 goals and provided 33 assists so far in 134 games for PSV.

And so, if the Premier League outfit can snap him up for about €40m, they could be adding some great depth to their team for a more reasonable price.
