Journalist James McNicholas has claimed that Bernd Leno has now decided who he wants to join as he leaves Arsenal this summer.

The Germany international has long been linked with an exit in the current transfer window, with Fulham looking like the most probable destination.

However, McNicholas had revealed in the past that Leno may not have exactly been cock-a-hoop about the switch, citing concerns over joining a newly-promoted team.

Now, though, it looks as though the Arsenal goalkeeper is finally prepared to make the move and a deal is just about putting the final pieces together.

Indeed, the journalist claimed as much while speaking on the latest Arsecast Extra Arsenal podcast.

He said: “I think there were things about Fulham that appealed, things that didn’t. Obviously, the appeal is that it’s the Premier League, it’s London.

“But I think he wanted to see a bit more of their ambition, and their plans for the team and squad building.

“But I think he’s now of the mind that Fulham would be a suitable destination. And now it’s just about putting the pieces together for the deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Bernd Leno and Arsenal…

It is interesting to hear McNicholas claim that Leno was waiting to see how ambitious Fulham were in the current transfer market.

If that is the case, it does make sense that the German is now more keen on a move. Indeed, the Whites have recently spent good money on Joao Palhinha – fending off fierce competition from league rivals Wolves.

On top of that, they are also linked with a £10m move for Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer. And so it looks as though they are keen on building up a strong squad for the new Premier League season with a few more signings.

With that in mind, Leno could well commit to the west London outfit, and with his domestic and international experience, he certainly could be a good addition.

And having lost his first-team place to Aaron Ramsdale last season, this could be his best chance to grab some top-flight minutes in the upcoming campaign – and an opportunity for Arsenal to get his wages off the books.
