Journalist Charles Watts has been blown away by the goal Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny scored during preseason.

Earlier this week, the Gunners flew to Germany to step up their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season. And for their their first official friendly fixture of the summer they took on Nurnberg.

The game was a bit of a thriller with Mikel Arteta’s men coming back from 2-0 down to win 5-3 – with new man Gabriel Jesus netting a double – but Elneny’s strike certainly caught the eye.

Indeed, the Egyptian struck a thunderbolt into the top corner from about 30 yards out to draw Arsenal level – leaving the opposition goalkeeper with no chance.

In reaction to the effort, Watts couldn’t hold back just how impressed he was, writing on Twitter: “Oh my word!! Elneny with an absolute banger. 2-2.”

TIF thoughts on Mohamed Elneny and Arsenal…

Elneny certainly seemed happy with his goal when speaking to club media after the game. Indeed, he said scoring efforts like that is what he loves as he works on that kind of finish often in training.

His full quote was: “It’s what I love! I love to score from distance. It’s what I work on every day in training. After every training, I work on it, when I finish training, I keep shooting from distance. Because I know shooting from distance can create a winning [scenario]. If the game is level and we need someone to shoot from outside, they can change the game sometimes. This is what I have to do, work on helping my team in every way.”

This certainly was a good way to celebrate the new contact he was recently handed. The midfielder signed a deal back in May which will now keep him at Arsenal for another 12 months.

And, if he can continue to score stunning goals like the one against Nurnberg, it’s hard to think why the club’s fans wouldn’t want him around the team for a little longer.
