Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold issues Josko Gvardiol lateest

Tottenham Hotspur have had Josko Gvardiol at the top of their wishlist this summer even ahead of Alessandro Bastoni and are likely to have already inquired.

This is what Alasdair Gold has suggested on his YouTube channel when discussing Antonio Conte’s search for a new left-sided centre-back.

Reports last week claimed Fabio Paratici has now made contact with RB Leipzig over the 20-year-old’s situation amid the summer transfer window.

However, Gold believes these inquiries will likely have come before the latest reports with the journalist claiming the club are well aware of how good Gvardiol could become.

And with the Croatian believed (via Sport Witness) to be attracting interest from the likes of Manchester City, Gold believes Gvardiol has, in fact, always been the top-rated centre-back by Spurs:

“But I actually said in the videos back then that I’d heard that Gvardiol was actually above Bastoni on the list, on the wish list for that left-sided centre-back position over Bastoni. Very much was Bastoni and Gvardiol at the top and then lots of other players kind of below that.”

“Gvardiol it’s one of these where if Spurs were to make a statement signing this would be it. Gvardiol, he is one of the best young players in the world, I’d say he is.”

“I think the reports yesterday [Saturday] came out of France, but just about Spurs had actually made an inquiry. I’m sure, to be honest, I’m sure that inquiry has come before. I’m sure Paratici has spoken to his representatives and people at Leipzig in the past because he is, like I say, top, top drawer one of the best young defenders in Europe if not the world.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

These comments from Gold may provide some fans with optimism over a potential deal for the Croatian this summer, however, fresh reports now claim Gvardiol could be set to sign a new deal with Leipzig.

Should Spurs just go big for Gvardiol this summer?

Given the interest from the likes of City in Gvardiol, this would feel like a huge signing for Spurs if they were to get it done but with a move for Bastoni seemingly off the cards, we do wonder where they go if they fail to land Gvardiol?

It does feel as if Bastoni and Gvardiol were at the very top of Paratici’s list and we do question whether Spurs may opt to wait until next summer to try again for these two if they fail to make a breakthrough this summer?

With Ben Davies impressing of late and a feeling there is some drop in quality to their next tier of targets, perhaps Spurs look to provide Davies with some backup with their list of targets potentially dwindling.
