Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to bring Gareth Bale back to north London this summer despite him becoming a free agent.

This is what the reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold has suggested whilst speaking on the latest Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast.

Earlier this week, the Welshman confirmed his departure from the Santiago Bernabeu after a nine-year stint with Real Madrid having made the move from Spurs back in 2012.

Bale’s time at Madrid has been filled with controversy with the fans at the Bernabeu often seen booing the winger in recent years as his game time diminished.

However, he has helped Los Blancos to undeniable success as he leaves with five Champions League medals to his name but it seems a return to N17 is not on the cards:

“I’ve spoken to people within his camp. I’ve spoken to be within Spurs, both sides of it, saying very unlikely.

“The season under [Jose] Mourinho, you know, Bale was good from the bench. And he did, or when he was starting in the second half of the season, he did wonderful things. It was fantastic.

“But what I would say is behind the scenes, he was being very carefully managed in what he could do in training, and also how many minutes he could play. It was quite the process, you know, and you could see Mourinho getting frustrated with that at times.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

There is the notion that Bale’s loan spell at Spurs in the 2020/21 campaign was not a success. However, we do not feel that is the case with Bale netting 11 goals and proving two assists in just 20 Premier League appearances.

Does Bale still have enough to offer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The days of Bale playing a huge role in a starting XI seem long gone with injury issues a real concern, so with that in mind, we think his return at Spurs from the bench was an impressive feat.

But it is his injury issues which do make us think that a return to Spurs may not be a wise decision this time around with Antonio Conte clearly demanding huge effort from his players.

And although Fabio Paratici is said to be a big fan of the 32-year-old, we do not think Bale could provide the work rate which Conte would want to see.
