Journalist Jonny McFarlane has had his say on whether Rangers should look to sign former Hibernian winger Martin Boyle this summer.

The Rangers Review writer was speaking on the site’s YouTube channel off the back of a claim made by former Ibrox enforcer Craig Moore who endorsed a move for his Australian compatriot to the Gers on the Go Radio Football Show (via Daily Record).

He said that Boyle could be that out-and-out winger on the right that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side is missing and they will know all to well of the ex-Easter Road favourite’s exploits as he netted a hat-trick against the Light Blues in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final last season.

However, despite the need for a player in that position McFarlane isn’t convinced that the £2.25m-rated sparkplug is the right fit.

Should Rangers look to sign Boyle?

No

No

(12:35)”I would say no, not for me. Obviously last season he caused a lot of problems in terms of that League Cup game where he scored a hat-trick but I think primarily he’s a player who thrives on space in behind and just domestically Rangers don’t really have that.

“These kind of players haven’t worked in the past and I’m not sure this one would work.”

TIF Thoughts on Boyle and Rangers…

The Aussie sealed a ‘life-changing’ £2.5m switch to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Faisaly back in January having scored 14 goals for Hibs in the first half of the campaign.

However, the move hasn’t turned out the way the 11-cap ace would have wanted with his club relegated at the end of the season.

Hibs will have first refusal should Boyle decide to return to Scotland ahead of an upcoming World Cup with his country and after seven years and 265 appearances in Edinburgh, it is likely that he would favour a return to his former employers rather than Ibrox although it is one to keep an eye on.
