Rangers should be looking to offload their star players if they refuse to commit to new deals.

That’s the view of Rangers Review writer Jonny McFarlane, who has been speaking on the website’s YouTube channel in relation to the general state of the squad at present.

First-team stars Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent all see their contracts expire at the end of next season and could all be snapped up at cut prices this summer.

Aribo is said to be gaining admirers at Crystal Palace, while Morelos has previously hinted that he would like to leave Ibrox.

Kent has been linked with a move to both Everton and Leeds United in recent weeks.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has previously told This is Futbol that the Gers may have to “bite the bullet” and cash in on the trio, and McFarlane seems to be of the same impression.

He said: “I’m going to put my neck on the line here. I really do not want to see Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo all being kept. I want them to be sold if they won’t sign new deals, because you can’t have Rangers running down the contracts to nothing on assets of that value.

“I mean, that’s at least £30m worth of players that you would be just setting fire to and saying, ‘no, we’re not worried about that’. I think that that would be really, really irresponsible. Rangers have to turn over this squad and refresh it a little bit.”

Should Rangers sell Morelos?

TIF Thoughts on Rangers…

£30m would be a hefty sum for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to reinvest in his side ahead of his first full season, and McFarlane has previously stated ‘that is part of their business model’.

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

Crysencio Summerville of Leeds is a name that has been mentioned in terms of incoming players, while the Glasgow giants are thought to be monitoring the situation surrounding Sunderland striker Ross Stewartformerly of Albion Rovers – who scored 26 goals this season as the Black Cats achieved promotion to the English Championship.

It would appear that the Ibrox outfit do have replacements lined up should their current stars depart, but you get the feeling that their transfer business this off-season will hinge on who they manage to hold onto.
