Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Josh Tymon ‘would definitely improve’ Rangers if he were to join the club.

The Scottish Sun has claimed that the Stoke City defender is a target of manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst as he prepares for his first full season in charge at Ibrox.

However, the report claims that the Gers may have to sell before they can sign the 23-year-old, who will take £5m to land.

Calvin Bassey and Borna Barisic are Van Bronckhorst’s current options on the left, with both men attracting interest, so perhaps one will be let go in order to bring Tymon to Scotland.

Rangers Review writer Derek Clark has revealed that ‘no official approach’ has yet been made for Barisic, but should he leave, O’Rourke believes that Tymon would be a cracking addition to the side.

Who would you rather at left-back?

He told GiveMeSport: “I think Josh Tymon had a really good season for Stoke City; he’s got huge potential and is an exciting young left-back.

“So, I think if Rangers were able to sign him, he would definitely improve the squad.”

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

Tymon contributed to seven goals this season in 48 appearances for Stoke last season, a marginally better rate in the English second tier compared to Calvin Bassey, who produced six assists in 50 matches for the Gers. Meanwhile, he also outperformed Barisic in terms of attacking, with the Croatian creating three goals in five fewer appearances.

According to WhoScored, Tymon also averaged 1.2 key passes, 1.1 dribbles, and 0.9 crosses per league game during the 2021/22 season, putting him third in each regard when compared to his teammates.

However, with Clark dismissing rumours that the Light Blues are plotting a bid for the former England U20 international, we will have to wait and see what comes of these links, but we can see why O’Rourke thinks he could potentially replicate either Bassey’s or Barisic’s outputs should he come in this summer.
