Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that this summer could be time for Borna Barisic to leave Rangers after a decreased involvement last term.

Borna Barisic has been linked with a move away from Rangers this summer, with Trabzonspor, the Turkish League champions showing interest in him. The Croatian left-back has two years remaining on his current contract with Rangers, so Giovanni van Bronckhorst might be keen to cash in on him

The 29-year-old defender has seen his game time reduced this season, he featured just 19 times in the Scottish Premiership, due to the emergence of Calvin Bassey into the side, after he featured 50 times in all competitions.

With the rumours of an exit from Ibrox for Barisic, and then lack of game time given to him last term, O’Rourke claimed to GiveMeSport that it might be time for him to move away from the club.

“I’m sure the player would definitely give it a big consideration to move on as well. So maybe this summer could be the time that Barisic does secure that move away from Ibrox,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

With Rangers falling short in the Europa League after losing in the final and coming second in the SPFL, Van Bronckhorst might be keen in his first summer transfer window as a manager to offload some players to make room on the wage bill so that he can bring in some new talent over the summer to improve the squad.

With Bassey emerging as the first-choice left-back at the club last season, Barisic saw his game time reduced, so he might be keen to move elsewhere so that he can confirm regular game time, as he turns 30 years old this year, and might not be happy with just sitting on the bench and being no more than a backup.
