Celtic may have just been handed a potentially huge blow to their hopes of landing the defender Cameron Carter-Vickers during this summer’s transfer window.
Football journalist Dean Jones has suggested on the latest Ranks FC podcast that the American wants to play his football in the English Premier League.
It is believed the Bhoys are pursuing the permanent signing of the Tottenham Hotspur defender, with a deal expected to be worth in the region of £6m.
And the 24-year-old has suggested he will no longer be a Spurs player come the start of next season, as he claimed he wants to play somewhere where he enjoys his football.
Having become such a prominent feature of Ange Postecoglou’s XI at Celtic Park, Jones provided insight on whether the American will be returning this summer on a permanent deal.
He said: “Carter-Vickers has really enjoyed it at Celtic, but he does want to play in the Premier League, so he’s just kind of keeping his options open at the moment.
“I definitely think there’s a chance that he joins Celtic, but it does depend on [Premier League interest].”

This may be a big concern to some, with Carter-Vickers still left speculating over where he will be playing his football, though he did admit discussions have taken place with the Parkhead side.

With Jones suggesting the American wants to play in the English top flight, there could still be a case for a move to Celtic making a lot of sense.
The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Kristoffer Ajer have both passed through Parkhead on their way to the Premier League, so a permanent move to Celtic would certainly not mean a move to England in the future is off the cards.
However, with the 24-year-old coming off the back of an impressive campaign, we do just wonder whether he will back himself and hold out for a move to the Premier League this summer.
