Celtic are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer and could look to Benjamin Siegrist to provide backup for Joe Hart.

This is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who has been speaking to This Is Futbol about Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the summer.

It has now been confirmed by the Parkhead club that Vasilis Barkas will leave on loan for the 2022/23 campaign, which means they are in need of backup.

Hart played a huge part in Celtic’s success in the 2021/22 campaign having made a whopping 54 appearances under Postecoglou across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

And O’Rourke believes they could potentially find that backup in the form of the Dundee United shot-stopper who has played a prominent role at Tannadice over the last few years.

He said: “He had a very good season in Scotland with Dundee United. Done very well up there, attracted interest from a number of clubs. Celtic are in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements; Barkas has left on loan and they do want to provide cover and competition for Joe Hart next season.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

It has been a torrid time for Barkas at Parkhead with just 180 minutes worth of football to his name over the 2021/22 campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

Would Siegrist be a good enough backup for Hart?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Hart has established himself as the number one between the sticks at Celtic Park, however, with Champions League football to contend with, we feel a strong backup is essential.

If Hart was to suffer a big injury, at least Postecoglou would have a Scottish Premiership regular in Siegrist to rely on to fill in as the Bhoys look to retain their Scottish crown.
