Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Antoine Semenyo signing for Celtic in the summer would be a great bit of business.

There have been reports that Celtic have scouted Bristol City striker Semenyo in the past, and he has been a target of the club over the months leading up to the summer transfer window.

Semenyo came through the youth academy at Bristol City and has impressed this season after scoring eight goals and registering 12 assists in 31 English Championship games.

With Semenyo being linked with a move to Celtic ahead of the summer transfer window, O’Rourke spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that it would be a great bit of business by the Hoops if he was to join.

O’Rourke said: “He’s done well at Bristol City, whether he could have the same impact as Moussa Dembele had when he arrived from Fulham, that’s up for debate, because Dembele was a real top signing for Celtic when they did get him.

“He showed that with his goals under Brendan Rodgers that helped them win so many trophies and also played in the Champions League as well. So, I think Semenyo does look a good player, and if Celtic could land him, I think it could be a good piece of business.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Semenyo, who has been described as a ‘nightmare’ to play against by Nigel Pearson, was been in superb form for Bristol City this season. He had the fourth-highest average player rating for his side (7.03), as well as the second-most goal contributions (20) and creating the second-most big chances (8), as per SofaScore.

Celtic managed to win the SPFL last season by four points, but they had a disappointing campaign in Europe, so Ange Postecoglou may be keen to bring in new talent – and with Semenyo being just 22 years old, he could be a suitable and affordable long-term option.
