BBC Sport contributor Dave Azzopardi has expressed his excitement after Wolves were linked with a summer move for Mauro Icardi.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via The Sun), Paris Saint-Germain are keen to offload the Argentina international this summer. The French club are said to have approached the player’s representative, Jorge Mendes, asking him to organise a path to Molineux.
The agent has a big connection to Wolves, so Icardi could well end up being an option offered to the Premier League club this summer.
Speaking about the possibility on the Talking Wolves YouTube channel, Azzopardi outlined his feelings on the matter. He said: “Now, what a signing this would be. There’s not much more information on this right now, but Mauro Icardi, looking to leave PSG. Will Jorge Mendes bring him to Wolverhampton Wanderers?

“Again, a striker is probably a position that we do need. A player of Icardi’s calibre would be phenomenal to join the club, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens on there.”

Mendes’ Gestifute agency happens to have strong connections with Wolves, as they look after the likes of Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto, Jose Sa and many others. And so, it would certainly make sense if Icardi was seen as an attainable target for the club.
With over 200 career goals to his name spread across spells for the likes of Sampdoria, Inter and PSG (via Transfermarkt), it’s easy to see why Azzopardi is rather excited about this latest rumour.
However, it remains to be seen as to whether or not Wolves will be keen to make a move for the forward, who won’t come cheap due to his past transfer fee and high wages, while his high-profile off-field antics may also make him a man to avoid in the market.
