BBC Sport contributor Dave Azzopardi expressed his frustration after Wolves’ Premier League fixtures for next season were released.
Last term, Bruno Lage’s men had to settle for a mid-table finish as they came 10th in the division. Next term, no doubt, they will hope to improve upon that.
While we are still in the summer period, the fixtures for the upcoming campaign have already been released. However, a couple of matches seem to have annoyed Azzopardi.
Indeed, while speaking on the Talking Wolves YouTube channel, the presenter outlined why back-to-back fixtures against Manchester City and Liverpool had upset him.
He said (1:35): “Once again, not just once this upcoming season but twice for some reason the Premier League have given us Liverpool and Manchester City back to back.
We play Liverpool away on September the 10th and Man City at home on Saturday the 17th. And then you go across to January and February at the end of January, we play City away on Saturday the 21st, and then we play Liverpool at home on February the fourth.
“They’ve done it to us before. I don’t know why they continue to do it obviously is a little bit frustrating.”

Considering Man City and Liverpool both picked up over 90 points last season – with the Manchester club winning the Premier League by just one point – it’s easy to see why Azzopardi is apprehensive about playing the pair consecutively.
And, as he mentions, Wolves did indeed have to play them back to back last term. Indeed, in December 2021, Lage’s men lost 1-0 at home against the Reds, before losing by the same scoreline away at City just seven days later.
This time around though, to make things worse, Wolves will have to play these tough opponents consecutively on two occasions – first in September and then in the new year. No wonder Azzopardi is a little exasperated.
Nothing new from the F.A, it’s there way to stop us progressing, what are they afraid, never mind we have to play and beat them some time or other.
