Journalist Toby Cudworth has revealed that West Ham have been in discussions over signing Argentinian striker Giovanni Simeone.

The son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego has carved out a career for himself in the Serie A and spent last season on loan at Hellas Verona from Cagliari with the Gialloblu exercising their option to sign the frontman permanently this summer.

However, reports in Italy suggest that the club are willing to cash in on the centre-forward who turns 27 next month and perhaps turn a profit on their €12m (£10.3) investment.

90min have stated that the Hammers will be active in the market this summer with a goalkeeper, left-back, centre-midfielder, forwards and a striker all being targeted after the £30m capture of Nayef Aguerd.

Among their targets at no.9 appears to be Simeone with Cudworth revealing on the Talking Transfers podcast that contact has been made regarding a potential move.

With David Moyes finally trying to replace Sebastian Haller who they sold back in January 2021, it would be interesting to see how ‘El Cholito’ would perform in the Premier League.

He has scored 67 goals in Serie A and provided 20 assists in 215 appearances during spells at Fiorentina, Genoa, Cagliari and Verona with Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig labelling his scoring efficiency at the start of the campaign as ‘insane’.

He finished level with Tammy Abraham on 17 goals last term in the top-flight with only three men netting more times in what was his best goalscoring season to date and it let to praise from journalist Toni Padilla who claimed that he has a ‘scoring nose’.

His goals fired Verona to a top-half finish in the most recent campaign but despite being at relatively lowly outfits in the division he still managed to produce on a consistent basis and could be an option for the Irons as their centre-forward search continues.
